Many people that strive to become nurses do so at a certain pace. The courses that are attended can take so many months to complete, after which comes certification and any other training that is needed on the job. For some, however, an accelerated LPN program becomes an option when striving to become an RN from LPN, providing the option to complete the appropriate coursework at a quicker pace. These programs will assist you in applying the LPN nursing skills you have learned and honed, while building new skills as an RN and a better understanding of the higher level of the position.
Why an Accelerated Program?
An accelerated LPN program is useful for those that demonstrate a desire to gain the education in less time. This is mostly to accommodate the high demand for nurses within the health care field, as well as provide a quick resort for those that excel within the licensed practical nurse arena and are able to grasp new skills and concepts quickly. For those that need a bit more instruction, an accelerated program may not be best as the courses will flow much quicker and there won’t be as much time dedicated to each. The testing and examination process does not change, however, ensuring that even with a faster program the skills are developed and tuned in the appropriate manner.
What is the Difference?
With any LPN to RN program, you will likely earn your ADN, Associate Degree in Nursing, or the BSN, Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. What the accelerated program does is allow you to earn these degrees in half the time, usually one to two years depending on the level, instead of two to four years. This allows you to take hold of your career much quicker while taking in the brunt of the program in a larger swallow, focusing on a quicker entry into the profession.
There are many people that opt for an accelerated program for LPNs in order to get into the field much quicker and satisfy the need for health care professionals. There is not a lesser quality to the education, and everything must be completed as with the typical programs, in order to ensure that nothing is skipped, missed, or ignored during the training and classes. Choosing an accelerated program will have you working within your desired field within a much shorter time than with other programs, but with the same level of education and skills.
